There can only be a good ending on a New Brighton Saturday. The bad came in the form of tagging of the sauna windows overnight putting that part of the He Puna Taimoana out of action for a few hours. Quick action from Signtech and Council graffiti team were able to remediate most of it to allow patrons full use of the facilities. Reminder to those with spray cans, the pools are promoted internationally and that is the last thing visitors need to see. The estuary planting organised by Forest & Bird and the Avon-Heathcote Estuary Ihutai Trust and featuring a raft of local body candidates saw a good turnout, emphasizing how important this urban estuary is, another part of the Coastal area on the world stage because it survives within a city and means we all have to try harder to maintain, and being watched on how we do it. The winner for being most successful event goes to…(drum roll)…the New Brighton Lions Club who sold out in less than two hours of both straw bales and compost. Over 1000 units and completed nearly 180 home deliveries during the course of the day. Wow.
