In yet more encouraging news for Coastal and New Brighton central, ‘The Eldernet Group’ is moving its offices into the former Ara Institute of Canterbury building on the corner of Shaw Ave and Hawke St. The nationwide organisation has deep roots in the area, having called Brighton its home since it was founded almost 25 years ago.
The Eldernet Group will relocate to its new address in late October, once its office fit-out is completed in the next couple of weeks. Its 18 staff will provide a welcome boost to local eateries and retailers in the area.
Linda Nicolson, E.G’s General Manager, says relocating to a bigger office will allow the company to continue growing its operation. It already has plans to increase its numbers over the coming months, with recruitment already underway for several new team members.
Founded in 1997 by Brighton local Eleanor Bodger (who remains director of the company), Eldernet was established in response to seeing a need for a comprehensive information service that focussed on issues concerning older kiwis. Starting off as one of the original websites in the country, The E.G has since grown to become one of New Zealand’s most trusted providers of information for older people, their whānau and professionals working in the sector.
Linda Nicolson says the organisation provides a wide range of information to help empower people to make decisions that are best for them and their loved ones: “You can find a comprehensive list of home help, retirement villages, specialist care, financial services, social services online. Or, if you’d prefer to have information in hard copy, you can order a free copy of our ‘Where from here ‘ handbook, which is commonly referred to as New Zealand’s ‘older person’s bible’.”
New Brighton Residents Association Chair Celeste Donovan says ‘The Eldernet Group’s move to the corner of Shaw Ave and Hawke St is a vote of confidence for New Brighton central, and hopes it encourages other businesses to fill the empty gaps within the area’s core, and is a evidence of activity at the western end of the Mall.
