There is a simple equation; More residents = More shoppers= More retail
A rush to build in New Brighton continues to accelerate and the latest heavy hitter has announced plans of its own project on Marine Pde.
The Williams Corporation confine themselves to areas mostly within city centres and are active in that space. The significance of its investment in New Brighton as the busiest residential developer in the country, is another recognition of the coastal potential.
Williams Corp have purchased land in an area the New Brighton Residents Assn believe to be amongst the most desirable parts of the central area, on Marine Pde/Keppel St with beach access, walk to retail and close to Rawhiti domain.
The development will mean a couple of more existing past-use-by-date houses along the parade will bite the dust.
For this not aware, Williams Corp now has offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Singapore and this gives it the ability to market local and internationally.
Sales Manager Matt Withington says quality is top of the list with construction, and because of bulk purchase discounts, can sharpen prices for customers.
He says despite reservations by some about intensification, that is the only way forward as land becomes a scarce commodity and the town house apartment models are starting to fill the existing gaps, the very area they specialise: “Christchurch is just catching up with trends elsewhere and most efficient way of utilising existing urban spaces.”
Withington is confident by 2030 greater New Brighton coastal will be a premier suburb and he says: “Who would not want to live here within this amazing natural environment ?”
He says there will be some comments about no garaging, but it no longer deters people from buying into property as cars are no longer a must have for young couples getting on the property ladder as most Williams Developments are close to most facilities or transport, and are usually sold very fast off plans .
The New Brighton Residents Assn has no views on this or any other development except provide the information as passed onto us. Those purchasing should do the usual due diligence around ‘Sunset Clauses’ for instance.
In brief the Williams new 37 apartment complex ranges from 1 bedroom 1 bathroom to 2 & 2 and also stand-alone one-bedroom. All include major appliances such as fridge/freezer, washer/dryer combo, microwave, dishwasher, plus heat pumps, blinds, full landscaping and garden shed.
Pricing is from $449,000 for a 1-bedroom townhouse and from $629,000 for a 2-bedroom home (see Information Brochure via Williams Corp)
To get an idea of prices in Christchurch, Withington says a one or two-bedroom is incredibly affordable here and says the price of an equivalent one-bedroom unit in Te Atatu in Auckland is $675,000.
“There is an increasing migration to Christchurch and many cannot believe they get such good value in a beachside suburb.”
